TRIOS 3 & 4: Intra-Oral Scanning

The TRIOS 3 and TRIOS 4 are digital impression scanning systems developed by 3Shape, a Danish company known for its innovative and advanced digital solutions in dental sciences. We use them to help us create highly accurate digital impressions of the teeth, gums, and bite.

Traditionally, dentists used to take impressions of the patient’s teeth by filling a tray with a putty-like material and asking the patient to bite down on it. However, this process was not only messy but also uncomfortable for many patients. With TRIOS 3 & 4, we eliminate all these issues and create digital impressions quickly and accurately.

In addition to being more comfortable, intra-oral scanning with TRIOS 3 & 4 offers several other benefits:

Increased Accuracy.

The digital impression captured by the scanner is highly accurate and eliminates any room for error due to human factors, such as air bubbles or inconsistencies in the putty material.

Real-Time Feedback and Adjustments

With traditional impressions, the dentist would have to wait for the putty material to set before removing it and examining if it’s accurate. With intra-oral scanning, we can immediately see the impression on a computer screen and make any necessary adjustments in real time.

Less Waste

Using digital impressions means we no longer have to use disposable materials like impression trays and putty, making the process more environmentally friendly.

Digital Records

All digital impressions captured by TRIOS 3 & 4 are stored in our computer system, creating a permanent and easily accessible record of your dental health. This is especially useful for tracking changes over time or comparing before and after results.

CBCT: 3D Imaging

At Smile Dental Group, we use Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) technology to capture highly detailed 3D images of the teeth, jaws, and surrounding structures. CBCT is a modern imaging technique that provides more information compared to traditional X-rays, making it an excellent tool for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

This technology is used in various dental procedures, including:

Dental Implant Planning

CBCT imaging allows for precise assessment of bone volume, quality, and location in the implant site, aiding in the planning and placement of dental implants.

Endodontic Evaluation

CBCT images are indispensable in endodontics for the evaluation of tooth morphology, including the detection of root canal anatomy and the assessment of periapical lesions.

Orthodontic Treatment

CBCT scans can assist in orthodontic treatment planning by providing detailed information about the position and orientation of teeth, as well as the underlying bone structure.

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Analysis

CBCT imaging is valuable for assessing the temporomandibular joint and surrounding structures, aiding in the diagnosis and management of TMJ disorders.

Impacted Teeth Assessment

CBCT can be used to evaluate impacted teeth, providing essential information for the accurate assessment and planning of extraction or orthodontic treatment.

Diagnosis of Pathology and Trauma

CBCT imaging enables the visualization of dental and maxillofacial pathology, including cysts, tumors, and fractures, enhancing diagnostic capabilities.

Airway and Sleep Apnea Evaluation

CBCT scans can be utilized to assess airway dimensions and aid in the evaluation of patients with sleep-disordered breathing conditions.

Laser: TMJ Therapy

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder refers to conditions that affect the movement of the jaw, often causing pain and limited function. Traditional treatments for TMJ disorders often involve non-invasive interventions such as physical therapy, occlusal splints, and analgesics, while some severe cases may even require surgical procedures.

Laser therapy for TMJ disorders, also known as Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), involves the application of low levels of light to areas of the body affected by the disorder. The therapy aims to reduce inflammation and pain and to promote tissue repair at a cellular level.

Digital X-Rays

Digital X-rays are a modern evolution of traditional X-ray imaging, where digital X-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film. This technology captures and stores the digital images on a computer. It also allows instant preview and availability, decreased radiation compared to traditional X-rays, and enhanced ability to refine image quality.
